Water Wednesday Photo of the Day – Laundry in Tee Riv
It almost looks idyllic, and I can attest to the fact that there is something nice about escaping the extreme heat, sitting by the coolness of the river and doing your laundry, Melanie Jones and I were doing just that when I took this photo in Petite Riviere in Haiti working on Waves of Change for CAWST. However, the fact remains that this is not a zen choice, but the only choice. In just one day, more than 200 million hours of women's time is consumed for the most basic of needs. The lost productivity is greater than the combined number of hours worked in a week by employees at Walmart, UPS, McDonalds, IBM, Target and Rogers, according to Gary White cofounder at water.org
